• Facilities

    As well as our large collection of both printed and electronic books, magazines, and databases, the Learning Centre provides a convenient place to study. This includes a dedicated Quiet Study room, plus areas for group work and individual study. There are multiple charging and connection points within the Learning Centre. All students are free to access the Learning Centre with the facilities available.

    Computer Access

    We have 28 computers running Windows 11 available in the Learning Centre. 16 are in the main body of the Learning Centre and 12 are in the Quiet Room. In addition, 24 laptops are available via the Lapsafe locker at the back of the Learning Centre. 
    There are computers located within the open area of the Learning Centre and also within the Quiet Study room and limited headphones are available for loan whilst in the Learning Centre.

    Short Term Laptop Loan for Use in Learning Centre

    Students can also borrow a laptop from the lapsafe which is located at the rear of the Learning Centre for use when working in this area. These are useful devices for collaborating within the booths. When you first use the lapsafe you are required to register using your full college email address and password. You then need to create a PIN. The lapsafe will automatically open a door for you to gain access to the laptop. If you require a lapsafe at accessibility height level, please press the wheelchair logo to the top of the screen. When returning the laptop the lapsafe will open automatically to the correct drawer. Please ensure you connect the charger. If while using a laptop within the Learning Centre and it is running out of charge. Please speak to the Learning Centre team and they will lend you a charger.

    • Logging In

      Use the Office 365 username and password you created at the start of the college term to login. If you have problems logging in please contact a member of the Learning Centre team. The Learning Centre team can also support password resets if required.

      WiFi

      Once you have signed for the first time you can use Eduroam when on campus. 

      Choose Eduroam from the list of available WiFi networks and use your college Office 365 username (student number@west-lothian.ac.uk) and password to login.  Alternatively, you can download the Eduroam app and login through that.

      Remember - if you change your college password you must update your password with Eduroam too or your account will lock.

      For those visiting college, please contact the person you are visiting and they can arrange visitor WiFi access via our Digital Infrastructure team.

    • Support

      The Learning Centre team can help you with finding relevant resources, password resets and supporting your digital skills for example formatting, creating tables of contents and other Microsoft related support. The team can also provide guidance on referencing, research and study skills. 

    • Printing and Photocopying Facilities

      To support your studies you will have a £10 print credit. Please consider the environment when printing and only print where necessary.

      Documents can be printed or copied double sided and Powerpoint presentations can be printed with multiple slides to a page to reduce paper use.

      If you need to help in printing or copying please speak to the Learning Centre team. If you need to add more funds to your print credit, please pay at the Campus Cafe and bring your receipt to the Learning Centre where the credit can be applied to your account immediately.

      Please note, you can only print from a college device  - printing is not possible from college loan laptops, mobiles or personal computers/tablets.

      To collect your prints or do any photocopying, you must log onto the photocopier/printer using your student number. The cost will be deducted from your printing allowance.

      Not a student at West Lothian College?

      If you are not a student at West Lothian College, you can still use some of our facilities.

      Unfortunately you are unable to access our network and use the computers or printing and photocopying.  If you are student at another educational facility, you will be able to use our Eduroam WiFi connection.

      Members of West Lothian public libraries are able to borrow two books from our stock by providing their library membership number.
