• STUDENT FUNDING

    There are different types of funding support available to you whilst studying at West Lothian College and it is important for you to know what may be available to assist with your living and study related costs.  

    Impartial, confidential help and advice on financial matters is available from the Student Funding Team - including Bursaries, Educational Maintenance Allowance (EMA), FE Discretionary Funds, HE Discretionary Funds and Childcare.

    • What you need to consider

      You will need to consider two things when applying for a course at West Lothian College; how you will pay for your tuition fees (course cost) and how you will pay for your other living costs such as travel, food, and accommodation. The type of help available will depend on the level of course you are studying and whether you are studying full-time or part-time.

      • Full-Time Further Education

        Full-time FE students will get their fees waived provided they meet certain residency and other criteria. For information regarding eligibility please click on the links below.  

        To apply for funding, you first of all have to accept your offer of a place on MyCollege, once you have done this, the funding icon will appear which will allow you to apply for funding specific to your circumstances.

        Where students meet the criteria to have their fees waived they may also be entitled to:

        Bursary maintenance to help with living expenses

        Allowances for travel, books and equipment

        Childcare costs for timetabled classes

        Further Education discretionary funding

        16 - 18 year-old students can apply for an Education Maintenance Allowance (EMA)

        Student Funding Guide

        • Full-time Higher Education

          Full-time students studying at HNC or HND level should apply to the Student Awards Agency Scotland (SAAS) for payment of tuition fees and to apply for student loan, bursary, grants and other funding available. Applications must be made online. For further information or to make your application please visit www.saas.gov.uk

          In addition, the college can provide local assistance towards childcare costs and provide discretionary funding to help with housing and other ad-hoc expenses.
