MULTI-FACTOR AUTHENTICATION
-
Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) is an extra security step used when logging into your Microsoft account (such as Outlook, Teams, or Office 365). It makes your account harder for hackers to access, even if they know your password.
How Does MFA Work?
MFA asks for two or more types of identification when logging in:
-
Something you know – your password.
-
Something you have – usually your phone or another trusted device.
This means if someone else tries to access your account, they would need both your password and your device, which is very unlikely.
Typical MFA Process (Simple Steps):
-
Enter your username and password as normal.
-
Microsoft sends a verification code or notification to your phone:
-
Via text message (SMS), or
-
Through the Microsoft Authenticator app, or
-
By a phone call.
-
-
You enter the verification code or confirm through the app to complete the login.
Example:
-
You log into Outlook from a new computer.
-
After entering your password, your mobile phone receives a code like: 24
-
You enter this code into the website, confirming it’s really you logging in.
Benefits of MFA:
-
Protects against password theft or hacking attempts.
-
Adds peace of mind, ensuring your account is secure.
-
Helps you keep your information private and safe.
Summary:
Microsoft Multi-Factor Authentication is like having two locks on your door instead of one, providing extra security and making it much harder for someone else to access your account without permission.
